Xtar VX4 - Battery Charger

The Xtar VX4 is a four-bay charger for vaporizers that run on removable batteries. It takes the 18650, 21700 and 26650 cells used in vaporizers and induction heaters, including longer protected 21700s. Each bay works on its own, so different sizes can charge side by side.

Four bays make the most sense with vaporizers and heaters that use two batteries at a time. The pair you just emptied and a spare pair charge together, so a full set is always waiting. With a single-battery vaporizer, you can keep several spares topped up at once.

The screen shows voltage, charging current and charged mAh for every bay, and reads FULL when a cell is done. Charging current is set automatically from the battery's condition and the power supply: up to 3 A for a single cell, or 1 A each when all four bays are in use. For a gentler charge, the C/V button lowers the maximum current for all bays. The charger starts in its standard mode, which is the correct one for vape batteries.

The VX4 can also measure capacity. In this mode it fills the battery, empties it at a steady 0.3 A, recharges it and then shows the measured capacity in mAh. A full test takes many hours, up to about a day for a large 21700, but it tells you when an older cell no longer holds its charge. It also helps you pick two batteries that tested alike for a two-battery vaporizer.

Deeply drained batteries get a gentle recovery charge before normal charging begins. Protection against reverse polarity, overcharging and short circuits is built in.

Power comes in over USB-C. The included 20 W adapter supplies the 12 V the VX4 needs for full speed. A power bank with 12 V USB-C output also works for charging on the go, and an ordinary 5 V charger works too, just more slowly. Rechargeable AA and AAA batteries for household use fit as well.
