Who is the AirVape ENSŌ Shisha for?
The AirVape ENSŌ Shisha is an electric hookah from AirVape, the makers of the Legacy Pro portables. Water tank, heater and hose sit in one body, and it is consistently rated among the best electric hookahs available.
It is a home and social vaporizer that travels by strap or backpack. Herb-only users are better served by a dedicated desktop, since the cups are sized for shisha. The ENSŌ is at its best with a group of friends around the table and one cup lasting close to an hour.
Design Built for the Table
The ENSŌ looks less like an appliance and more like a well-made piece of furniture. The body is sandblasted zinc alloy, the base is smoked borosilicate glass with 3.2 mm thick walls, and small feet hold it steady on a table. It stands 33 cm tall and weighs 2.55 kg.
Most of the assembly is magnetic. The cup, the glass cap on top and the hose connectors all snap into position, and the glass base twists off with a quarter turn. The design won a Red Dot Design Award in 2026 and Best Hookah 2025 at Shishamesse Frankfurt.
A vegan leather strap is built into the body, so the ENSŌ hangs at your side like a briefcase when you carry it between rooms or out to the balcony.
For longer trips you can add a backpack, sold separately, shaped around the ENSŌ and its parts with padded shoulder straps for hands-free carry.
Heat Without Charcoal
Nothing burns inside the ENSŌ. There is no ash, no coal smell, no open flame and no carbon monoxide, which is why it works indoors and in places where coals are not allowed.
The heater wraps around the outside of the cup, so heat presses inward from every side at once, much like a sauna warming from its walls. Air pulled through the load then carries that heat into the material as you draw.
From cold, the ENSŌ takes about five minutes to reach temperature and chimes when it is ready. Heat sensors and a microcontroller trim the power as you go, so the setting holds steady across a long session, and the fan stays quiet enough for easy conversation.
Two Heating Modes for Two Materials
Orange mode is the default at power-on. It uses a gradual algorithm that ramps the heat up and then eases back, which suits shisha and any shisha and herb mix over a long session.
Click the wheel three times to switch to Green mode. Power goes straight to the temperature on the dial and holds it there, which is exactly what dry herbs and concentrates need.
Five clicks from Orange mode switches on the blue lock, which freezes the dial at the set temperature so guests cannot change it. Five clicks again releases it. The ENSŌ always starts in Orange mode, so you choose your mode after each power-on.
Water Filtration for a Cooler Draw
Every draw passes through the glass base before it reaches the hose. The base holds about 0.2 L of water, and you fill it to the level line. Water cools the vapour and makes the heat gentler even at the highest temperature settings.
The second port carries a real purge valve with an acrylic ball inside, so you can blow stale air out of the base between flavours, and spare balls come in the box. A splash guard plate sits above the water, so overflow cannot travel up into the hose.
The diffuser slides into the base and lifts straight out again for cleaning.
The glass base is thick and sits on protective feet, and it is the part most exposed to knocks. You can add an acrylic water tank for travel and party settings, or keep a glass tank as a second base. Both are sold separately.
Airflow Through a Wider Hose
The 2026 hose is braided, 1.5 m long and wider inside than the previous one, a 1.2 cm bore against the original 0.8 cm, so the draw is more open from the first inhalation. It ends in a 15 cm magnetic stainless steel mouthpiece, and the connectors swivel at both ends so the hose follows you around the table.
The vapour path is stainless steel and ceramic, both flavour-neutral, with glass at the base and at the cap. The flavour you taste comes only from the material you load. Five silicone tips come in the box, so every guest can have their own.
For two people drawing at the same time, a second 1.2 cm hose takes the place of the purge valve. A pair of tube adapters connects traditional hookah hoses to the magnetic ports, and an extended mouthpiece gives vapour more room to cool. All are sold separately.
Temperature Control on One Wheel
The single wheel handles power, mode and heat. Turning it moves in 5°C steps from 180°C to 330°C across 34 click positions, with each large line on the dial marking 15°C and each small line 5°C.
There is no numeric display. A light bar shows relative intensity, so you read your setting from the dial lines and soon learn your favourite positions by feel.
For shisha, 180°C to 220°C keeps flavour at its clearest, 230°C to 280°C sits in the middle, and 290°C to 330°C extracts more from a load in fewer draws. Many owners start low and step up as the session goes on.
With herbs in a ceramic cup, roughly the lower third of the temperature range gives the cleanest flavour. Keep herb temperatures moderate here, since the ceramic cup touches the heater walls and can scorch a load at high settings over a long session.
If you mostly vape herbs, there is a dedicated accessory for that. The herb cups, sold separately, float clear of the walls, hold about 0.5 g and run at maximum temperature without scorching.
Cups and Loading
The ENSŌ arrives with two medical porcelain cups and ten disposable aluminium cups. A cup takes 15 g to 25 g of shisha, though most sessions settle around 8 g, and one cup runs for 30 to 60 minutes.
Herbs work best here when mixed with shisha rather than used on their own. A cup holds up to 3 g of herbs on its own, which is a lot to commit at once, so the popular approach is shisha packed tightly around the edge with about 0.25 g of herbs in the centre.
Two mesh screens are included and sit on top of a packed cup. Poke through every hole from the top, then turn the cup over and poke from the underside as well: this is what makes the draw easy instead of restricted. A rubber stopper fits into the lid for herb-only sessions and comes out again for shisha.
If you host guests regularly, you will go through cups quickly. You can add disposable cups in packs of 50, three more ceramic cups for back-to-back flavours, and a screens and concentrate pads kit that adds wax pads for concentrates. All are sold separately.
An Open System With No Pods
Nothing about the ENSŌ ties you to one supplier. You fill the cups yourself, so shisha, nicotine-free shisha, hemp shisha, dry herbs and concentrates all run in the same chamber, with no pods and no brand restrictions.
Regular shisha contains nicotine. Nicotine-free shisha and hemp shisha give you the same flavours and the same long session without it.
How to Use the AirVape ENSŌ Shisha
Everything runs from the single wheel, and the click pattern is worth learning once.
- Filling: Fill the glass base to the water level line, twist it onto the body with a quarter turn and slide the diffuser into place.
- Loading: Fill a cup a little past halfway, around 8 g of shisha, packed loosely. For a mixed load, press shisha around the edge and put about 0.25 g of herbs in the centre.
- Screening: Lay a mesh screen on top and poke through every hole, then turn the cup over and poke through from the underside as well.
- Fitting: Seat the cup in the chamber, place the glass cap on top and click the hose onto a magnetic port. The rubber stopper goes into the lid for herb-only sessions and stays out for shisha.
- Heating: Hold the wheel for about three seconds to power on, set your temperature, then double-click to start heating. Triple-click first if you want Green mode.
- Waiting: The chime sounds after about five minutes. Give it another 20 to 30 seconds before the first draw. The sounds can be muted with the speaker button.
- Inhaling: Draw slowly for six to eight seconds, then leave a few seconds up to half a minute between draws. The heater keeps running between draws, as there is no draw detection, so the ENSŌ should not be left unattended mid-session.
- Finishing: Power the ENSŌ off yourself when you are done. Lift the cup out with the removal tool while it is still warm, tip the used material out and wipe the cap and the cup well.
Battery and Charging for a Full Evening
The Battery Plus pack holds 5,000 mAh and slots into the back of the body on a quick-release latch. AirVape quotes 90 to 120 minutes of runtime per charge, and lower temperature settings tend to stretch that.
A full charge takes about 1.5 hours, down from around three hours on the previous battery. Two USB-C ports are available, one on the body and one on the battery itself, and charging through the battery port is the faster of the two. The ENSŌ also runs while plugged in.
There is no battery level indicator, so you judge the remaining time from how long you have been running. A charged pack swaps onto the latch without tools, which is a simple way to keep long gatherings and outdoor sessions going.
The box holds a USB-C cable and a wall adapter, so charging works from day one. A second Battery Plus, sold separately, keeps an evening running once the first pack is empty.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Shisha is sticky, and a quick clean after each session keeps the chamber performing at its best. Wipe the glass cap and the well the cup sits in while everything is still warm, brush the airflow shaft, then empty and rinse the water base.
The 3-in-1 multi-tool and metallic glove are included in the 2026 box and are shaped for the chamber and the airflow channels. Take the battery out before you rinse any part with water, and keep steel brushes away from the chamber and the lid coating.
Ceramic cups do best soaking in warm water with mild soap or vinegar. Isopropyl alcohol handles herb residue, though it does not cut shisha residue well. Disposable cups skip that job altogether, and they take three or four careful cleans before you retire them.
What Changed in the 2026 Edition
Four things changed for 2026, on the same body, chamber and heating system as before. The cap is now a Glass ThermoCap in smoked borosilicate, which cleans easily and holds heat better.
The hose became a wider braided 1.5 m version with a redesigned magnetic stainless steel mouthpiece. The Battery Plus pack charges in about half the time of the earlier battery, and the 3-in-1 cleaning multi-tool with its metallic glove now comes in the box.
ENSŌ Shisha vs ENSŌ Diamond
The ENSŌ Diamond is a compact electric heat manager that sits on top of a traditional hookah you already own. It brings the same charcoal-free heat to your existing pipe, takes up very little space and leaves your hookah looking exactly as it does now.
The ENSŌ Shisha is a complete hookah in one body, with the water tank, the hose and the heat built in. You get the glass water base, two hose ports and a removable battery without owning anything else.
If you already have a hookah you love, the Diamond upgrades it. If you want a single purchase that replaces charcoal and all the equipment that goes with it, the Shisha gives you everything in one device.
ENSŌ Shisha vs Legacy Pro 2
The Legacy Pro 2 is AirVape's pocket-sized premium portable for solo herb sessions. It has a gold-plated chamber, a removable 18650 battery and an on-demand mode, and it slips into a jacket pocket.
The ENSŌ Shisha is built for 30 to 60 minute sessions shared with guests, with water filtration, a 1.5 m hose and a chamber that takes shisha, herbs and concentrates in the same load.
For solo herb sessions away from home, choose the Legacy Pro 2. For evenings around a table with a hose passing between people, choose the ENSŌ.
ENSŌ Shisha vs Arizer XQ2
The Arizer XQ2 is a mains-powered desktop from Canada with both balloon and whip delivery, an all-glass vapour path and a remote control. It is herb-focused, with a chamber sized for herbs and unlimited runtime from the socket.
The ENSŌ Shisha is cordless for 90 to 120 minutes on its removable battery, filters every draw through its own water base and runs shisha, herbs and concentrates in one cup.
The XQ2 is designed for herbs and balloon delivery. The ENSŌ is built around water-filtered, hookah-style sessions with a hose, and it can add herbs to the same bowl of shisha.
